SHOKA (Calligraphy artist): Started learning calligraphy in 1974, started her professional career in 1996. Watanabe's works are not only writing characters on paper, but also making works for decoration such as window displays at Mitsukoshi Department Store. She also has works at private houses, restaurants and bars, and has created logos for a Japanese confectionary shop. Besides the works fixed in limited spaces, her challenges are unlimited. Through the activities of live performances, workshops and exhibitions at many events, she keeps trying to express human sensitivities through the power of calligraphy. Since 2003, she started to show a series of 3D installation works with adapted Light and Shade. It's her next challenge to express the space itself by the calligraphy. These series of works (11 pcs) were introduced as: "The first and only calligraphy 3D works " in the South Australian Museum, Adelaide. Her works are gaining international reputation. Her motto is "Smile, Eat, Drink;” it makes her world happier all the time.
