Reflection - Things to Feel from the Distance: Natsuko Matsumura
April 14- April 19, 2018
The Tenri Cultural Institute is excited to announce “Reflection - Things to Feel from the Distance” by Natsuko Matsumura. The project stems from Matsumura’s own observations of the deep cultural traditions in both Jewish and Japanese culture. She incorporates her own reflections of growing up in Japan and the differences she find now living in New York through her photography.
About the Artist:About the Artist: Natsuko Matsumura is a multimedia artist from Japan who mainly focuses on art street photography and printmaking. She currently lives and works in New York, and her work reflects the feeling of freedom she feels being in this multicultural city. She captures the natural behaviors, feelings of separation, and observation through her photographs. Inspired by her own struggle to find an identity, her images call for self and social awareness of human existence. Matsumura earned her BFA in photography at Hunter College. After graduation, she continued to study photography with Francisco Bravo. Her work is displayed in private collections, group shows, and is a part of a permanent collection at Zayed University in Dubai.
