Japanese Language Class for Children

Geared for children with little or no Japanese in the
home environment, this class is for children who will be studying for
the first time. We have structured this class so that children can study
Japanese using creative teaching tools to capture the student's interest.
We will use the textbook Japanese for Young People. The student will be instructed in daily conversation, reading
and writing of the hiragana syllabary, and basic grammar. We will
integrate Japanese culture and stories into the lessons, as we strive
to create a fun and interesting class. Basic vocabulary, grammar and idioms
will be introduced through the following themes. Classes are limited to
ten students. Open enrollment. 10 years old or older.

Materials
Nihongo I

Japanese Language Class for Children (Native Speakers)

Wednesdays: 4:00

Saturdays: 1:00 ~ 2:30 p.m. |
Geared for children whose first language is
Japanese. The progression of this class will differ from that of a regular
Saturday school class, which progresses at the same speed as classes in
Japan. This class is designed for children who are going to remain in
America and will allow the children to study at a slower pace.
Kindergarten
With the focus on increasing vocabulary and conversation skills,
students will come in contact with Japanese culture thourgh speaking,
singing, crafts, gesture games, and hiragana.
Lower Grades
We will use textbooks published by Mitsumura and study to the
end of Level 2. The class is geared towards giving the student the absolute
minimum neccessary level of reading and writing characters and forming
sentences, and nurture the proper usage and meanings of basic Japanese.
Upper Grades
Using Mitsumura textbooks, we will study up to the end of Level 4. The
student will study reading and writing of characters, and forming sentences,
and we will nurture the ability to differentiate between and use the many
different phrases in Japanese.
Middle School
Using Mitsumura textbooks, we will study up to the end of Level 6. The
student will study reading and writing of characters, and forming sentences
at the middle and advanced level. The class will be aimed at further nurturing
the student's ability to confidently express him/herself.
