The Alumni Association of Tama Art University NY Club
Annual Exhibition

September 21 - October 4, 2022

Reception: Thursday, September 22, 6-8 pm

The Tama Art University Alumni Association’s NY Club has been holding its annual exhibition entitled “Home Away From Home” since 2004. This is our 18th exhibition.

“Home Away From Home” expresses who we are, having left our homes in Japan to make our homes here.  We remain conscious of our identities while making efforts to break through our own artistic confines here in New York, the center of the art world.

The theme this year is “Artwork + one.” In addition to their artworks, the 20 participants created small works which may provide the viewer with further insights into the works, the artists themselves and their artistic practice.

The small plus one works were each freely conceived by the artists in forms such as self-portraits, sketches made while creating the larger works, and works that evolved from the larger works. The idea is to give the viewer a means to gain insights in the creative process of the artist to provide a better understanding into the realm of the works to be shared mutually between the artist and the viewer.

This year, we feature Miki Nagano in her solo exhibition. Nagano has been showing her monotype prints using multicolor lithograph and copperplate etching methods throughout the U.S and in Japan. Nagano’s striking colors depicting light result from her multi-layered color printing process. Her work pays homage to nature and gives hope for peace. Miki Nagano’s works are highly recognized and in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum and other public and private institutions.

We hope that you'll come to see our Tama Art University Alumni Association New York Club's annual exhibition.
